May is such a transition month in the life of our church.   We end the fiscal church year and begin the next.  May signals the realization of accomplishments for graduating seniors and the moving from jr. high to high school or grade school to jr. high.

For some of us we are glad the month of April is over because of the life and death issues we have had to deal with and the process of dealing with it will continue on.  For others, April ending and May beginning is like the peak of accomplishment and the beginning of the next exciting chapter of our lives.   You might say both perspectives are at a crossroads of life

The future can be full of unknowns and that can be a very exciting and unnerving thing at the same time.  In the life of the church we review the year to see if our missional goals were accomplished and where that happened we celebrate. Where that did not happen we evaluate and ask God what we need to do to better accomplish His purpose.

Individually celebrating and evaluating are necessary as well in our walk with Christ.   Are we being discipled, and who are we discipling.  What I celebrate, is it evidence of loving God with all my heart and my neighbor as myself? Did I, or do I get stuck in a rut and balk at God when He leads me out of my comfort zone, or do I take a deep breath, and ask for strength as I step out of the comfort zone into God's great unknown of amazing grace?     If I have balked or if we as a church have resisted, am I willing, are we willing, to repent of resistance or procrastination and step up and out in faith?   We have grown, and we will continue to do so as we step out in faith.

Finally, May also signals for our congregation some of the beginnings of our most missional activities where kids, teens, and adults draw closer to Christ or embark on mission activities with friends.   So let's celebrate what God has accomplished, and saddle up to blaze the next missional trail God wants us to blaze.
